Week 18
Very little has happened to me this week, but last Wednesday, I missed the chance to take an awesome photograph. I was in Vernon ht Vernon Town Hall obtaining my fishing license. When I stepped outside, I saw something that made me wish that I had my camera with me. There was a flock of geese just sitting in the yard, and I would have been abel to capture the image with both film and digital cameras. I only was able to see the flock for a few seconds before a car pulled in and scared them away. I would have had to use fast shutter speeds in order to freeze the action do they would not have flow away.

Week 17
Yesterday (Thursday), I would have been able to take photographs of the severe thunderstorm. In order to have done this, I would have to hold the shutter release button of my camera until I saw a bolt of lightning. After the lighning strike, I would have immediatly had to close my shutter as not expose any more blackness to wipe out the white light. Because of the long exposure, I would have had to use a tripod to keep my camera steady while taking the image. I would have prefered to use digital so I would be able to see my exposures instead of constantly waiting to see how film would come out.

Week 16
Earlier today, I had the chance to take a nice landscape shot. My neighbor's hill was bright green from the sun's brightness and there were only a few strong clouds overhead. The sun was directly behind me which would have given me the chance to make a nice HDR of the scene with my digital camera and photoshop. I would have used one aperture setting, one ISO, and I would have continued to change my shutter speeds so I would have many frames to merge. I would have darkened the grass a bit while trying the deepen the depth of the overhead clouds.

Week 15
On Tuesday night, I went out on a photo shoot at the river near the Brattleboro Retreat. I was taking pictures of car trails and was trying to see how the light would also look as it reflected off of the water. I pretty much managed to take the number of phtosos I wanted, except for one. A car was parking right near the edge of the water, and it let off a very bright reflection in the center of the river. The shape of the refelection gave off a star like form, and last for nearly 10 sec until the car turned its headlights off. I would have captured this image with my camera, but it was saving the last photo I took and I was not able to get the image. I would have had the shutter speed at 16 seconds, an aperture of 5.6, and I would have used a tripod so the image would not be out of focus or moved.

Week 14
Yesterday would have given me a great chance to capture a photo. It was around 10:00 PM in Vernon, and I was outside in my backyard to try and capture nighttime photos. I was attempting to take a landscape picture of the trees in the dark light with a long exposure, but before I even tried to just take one picture, it started to rain. My camera only had the ability to go up to a maximum of a ISO 400, so I would have had to use a long exposure (16 seconds is maximum, but bulb setting can be used when the button is held down, allowing me to capture longer exposures) and at least f5.6 so the image would be able to be bright enough to show through the darkness. Due to long exposures, I also would have had to use a tripod or steady surface so the image would remain still and not become blurry.

Week 13
During Tuesday, I had to redo a photo shoot due to the fact I was not fully using the capabilities of my Kodak camera. The main subject of the shoot was moving cars and vehicles for pan shots. I was able to capture some images, but not the one that still sticks in my mind. I saw a bright blue convertible, possibly a Pontiac, drive right by me. I would have taken this image, but my camera was still compiling the last photo to my sd card. If I took this image, I would have set my camera to shutter priority so the apperature would would be automatic, but I would be able to choose the shutter speed. I would have used either a 30 or 40 shutter speed so I would be able to follow the Pontiac in focus but obtain a streak effect in the background.

Week 12
On Wednesday, I missed the chance to take an interesting photo. Out in the woods behind my house, the moon that was shining brightly over a pond. The moon was full on that clear night and the light made it able to see the reflection of the moon itself and the stars. I would have had to use slow shutter speeds and a tripod in order to have capture the image of the stars in the water since they were very feint and were barely viewable in the water. I also would have had to be far back and capture the image of the pond at an angle so my camera and I would not be in the reflection.

Week 11
Yesterday, I had the chance to take many photos, but one particular image is what I wished I had taken over all others. This image was in downtown Brattleboro as the sun was setting and behind one of the churches and being covered up by the clouds of the last rain storm, creating a gleaming light effect as it was hidden behind the large structure's spire. Beams of light were heading in many directions, which made me curious to follow as many as the beams with my eyes as they slowly disappeared. In order to have taken this picture, I would have had to use fast shutter speeds and high aperture settings so I would be able to dim most of the light from the sun. This would make it easier to edit the photo in Photoshop with the setting used to capture the image because it would have made it less time consuming to change the properties of the photo to make the light right.

Week 10
With Winter FINALLY ending, I now have to deal with its aftermath of mud and muck. However, in the woods behind my house, there is a scene that would be nice to take photos of. A stream is beginning to melt and defrost after being frozen for about 5 months. The small amount of water is flowing downward to a pond over and around natural obstacles such as branches and fallen tree limbs. If I were to have taken this photo, I would have actually decided to use a slow shutter speed to capture an interesting effect of the water over the still background. I would have had to use a tripod or a flat and steady surface so the camera would be in focus while it captured the image.

Week 9
On Thursday, as I was waiting from my ride to pick me up at the Co-Op, I decided to kill some time by walking around downtown Brattleboro. After walking up to the library and back, my ride still did not arrive so I chose to take a walk across the bridge that leads into Hinsdale. While I was on the bridge (a death wish due to it wobbling left and right slowly from the growing decay), I saw the sun setting behind some of the buildings in Brattleboro. The Connecticut River, which was also in my eyesight, was relecting some of the light off the surface of the water. In order to take such a picture, I would have had to use fast shutter speeds to capture the moment very quickly. If I were to use slower shutter speeds, the shot would have been over exposed with too much light. As usual, I could have taken this picture with digital and film cameras. I might have had to use a tripod so the camera would not shake, but due to the wobbling bridge it probably would not have done much help.

Week 8
On Wednesday, there was yet ANOTHER snowstorm, just before Spring began (and people say global warming is a myth...). The snowstorm lasted for quite sometime and left around another foot of snow around my house. I still find this hard to believe with the recent warm weather, but the rather largesnow flakes made me except the what I was seeing. During the storm, I could have used both my digital and film cameras to capture streaking effects of the snow. I would have preferred to have done this shoot at night with a flash and/or a flashlight, because I would have been able to pick up the white snow trails in the dark background. In order to create this streak effect, I would have had to use low aperature settings of the cameras to capture the movement and light of the snow. If I were to use low aperature setting, I would have needed a tripod or any flat, steady surface so the camera would not shift while it took the images.

Week 7
When I got out of school, I missed what would have been an amazing photo. While I was being driven back home, I saw through the windshield two eagles flying over. These eagles both had white heads, which led me to believe that these were both bald eagles! This would have been a great photograph for both digital and film since it was bright and clear out. However, due to the vast distance from the eagles in the sky and me on the ground, I would have had to use zoom lenses and fast shutter speeds on both my digital and film cameras in order to capture the amazing image. This to me was a once in a lifetime opportunity since it will be very rare to see two bald eagles out in an area such as Brattleboro again.

Week 6
During my photoshoot during school on Friday, I saw a small stream of water flowing into a wooded area that was near the career center. In the water, there was lines of trailing rocks, shadows being casted by rocks, textures from the plants and rocks, and reflections from small amounts of light on the water. I would have been able to use differnt shutter speeds and aperature settings on film and digital cameras to have different exposures and effects on my photos. I would have taken this picture, with both a film camera and digital camera, but I was not able to for two reasons: My digital camera's battery was dead at that point and I had run out of availible film on my black and white camera to take the picture.

Week 5
During this week, what was supposed to be a major snow storm turned into a mixture of snow and rain. As a result. my driveway was filled with slush and mud from the aftermath of the storm. This would have given me different pictures of angles, light, and contrast for both black and white film and digital color photos. The light in my photos would have reflected off the water and ice, the angles from standing on snow drifts or being in the middle of the road, and the contrast from the shades of the snow, ice, and mud. I also saw the reflections of the trees in the water as well.

Week 4
There were many opportunities for me to take pictures during this week, but the one that still stands out to me is of the mounds of snow. I saw the mounds of snow going up and down, partially blocking the view of the Connecticut River
near Cersosimo's lumber that had been pushed back and piled up. This snow would have given nice whites in a photo and would have left intersting shadows if the sun had hit them at a certain angle. If it were at nightime, I would have used a flash to catch the reflection of the snow and the water of the river.
I would have taken this picture a couple of times with different aperatures and shutter speeds to see how the image would have been affected.

Week 3
Due to power going off here anytime now, I guess I better type what I could have taken for pictures. During my photo shoot on Thursday, there were a row of cars that were reflecting sunlught off them. One group was to the left, another to the right, and just pavement in the center. If I had taken this photo, it would have been a pattern and symmetrical with the sun just over the center of the pavement. However, my film jammed and I was
unfortunately no longer able to take any more pictures that day.

Week 2
I missed an opportunity to take interesting photos on Wednesday night. It was extremely foggy out, and I could barely see in front of me. If I had my camera and a flash, it could have made very neat effects on the negative images. If I had taken them, however, it would have been difficult to create photo prints in the darkroom, yet still would have made a good topic for my semester project.
