Week 18

Very little has happened to me this week, but last Wednesday, I missed the chance to take an awesome photograph. I was in Vernon ht Vernon Town Hall obtaining my fishing license. When I stepped outside, I saw something that made me wish that I had my camera with me. There was a flock of geese just sitting in the yard, and I would have been abel to capture the image with both film and digital cameras. I only was able to see the flock for a few seconds before a car pulled in and scared them away. I would have had to use fast shutter speeds in order to freeze the action do they would not have flow away.

Week 17

Yesterday (Thursday), I would have been able to take photographs of the severe thunderstorm. In order to have done this, I would have to hold the shutter release button of my camera until I saw a bolt of lightning. After the lighning strike, I would have immediatly had to close my shutter as not expose any more blackness to wipe out the white light. Because of the long exposure, I would have had to use a tripod to keep my camera steady while taking the image. I would have prefered to use digital so I would be able to see my exposures instead of constantly waiting to see how film would come out.

Week 16

Earlier today, I had the chance to take a nice landscape shot. My neighbor's hill was bright green from the sun's brightness and there were only a few strong clouds overhead. The sun was directly behind me which would have given me the chance to make a nice HDR of the scene with my digital camera and photoshop. I would have used one aperture setting, one ISO, and I would have continued to change my shutter speeds so I would have many frames to merge. I would have darkened the grass a bit while trying the deepen the depth of the overhead clouds.

Week 15

On Tuesday night, I went out on a photo shoot at the river near the Brattleboro Retreat. I was taking pictures of car trails and was trying to see how the light would also look as it reflected off of the water. I pretty much managed to take the number of phtosos I wanted, except for one. A car was parking right near the edge of the water, and it let off a very bright reflection in the center of the river. The shape of the refelection gave off a star like form, and last for nearly 10 sec until the car turned its headlights off. I would have captured this image with my camera, but it was saving the last photo I took and I was not able to get the image. I would have had the shutter speed at 16 seconds, an aperture of 5.6, and I would have used a tripod so the image would not be out of focus or moved.

Week 14

Yesterday would have given me a great chance to capture a photo. It was around 10:00 PM in Vernon, and I was outside in my backyard to try and capture nighttime photos. I was attempting to take a landscape picture of the trees in the dark light with a long exposure, but before I even tried to just take one picture, it started to rain. My camera only had the ability to go up to a maximum of a ISO 400, so I would have had to use a long exposure (16 seconds is maximum, but bulb setting can be used when the button is held down, allowing me to capture longer exposures) and at least f5.6 so the image would be able to be bright enough to show through the darkness. Due to long exposures, I also would have had to use a tripod or steady surface so the image would remain still and not become blurry.

Week 13

During Tuesday, I had to redo a photo shoot due to the fact I was not fully using the capabilities of my Kodak camera. The main subject of the shoot was moving cars and vehicles for pan shots. I was able to capture some images, but not the one that still sticks in my mind. I saw a bright blue convertible, possibly a Pontiac, drive right by me. I would have taken this image, but my camera was still compiling the last photo to my sd card. If I took this image, I would have set my camera to shutter priority so the apperature would would be automatic, but I would be able to choose the shutter speed. I would have used either a 30 or 40 shutter speed so I would be able to follow the Pontiac in focus but obtain a streak effect in the background.
